A Santorini-Chic Dining Room

As a designer, I love working with clients who share an affinity for all things bright and bold. So I was delighted when a recent client came to me looking to convert their main entry space into a Mediterranean-inspired dining room suited for hosting dinner parties for their eclectic group of friends. I also love hosting dinner parties in my home and know how a well-curated dining space can elevate a gathering and enhance the overall energy and atmosphere of the party.

Having recently moved into their new home, this client started with a relatively blank slate: bland beige walls, minimal existing furniture pieces and a dream of filling their home with their close friends and family in an energizing environment. They were also ready and willing to take on painting and assembling the space but didn't know how to pull together the look that they envisioned, making my comprehensive design package the perfect solution for them.

Inspired by the bright blue rooftops and crisp white facades that are the hallmarks of design in Santorini, Greece, I recommended a bold blue paint color to serve as the backdrop of the space and bright white trim and furnishings to set off the bold wall color. We added new dining room chairs and a buffet to store their special serving platters and dishes to make hosting a breeze, as well as an entry bench to hold guests' coats and shoes. I also recommended pops of red accents in the rug, art and decor selections to add more color and interest to the room.

With the design plan in place, this client took on all the painting and assembly themselves, and here is how it turned out. I love how bright and inviting this space is now!

Now this client has a bold and beautiful dining room perfectly suited for hosting dinner parties with all of their favorite people - and they can feel transported to the Mediterranean without ever having to leave their home. A win-win!
